Woven-grass spoon pouch with beaded decoration

22cm x 12cm

Pouches such as this were used as holders for the wooden spoons that adults would use for eating curd or clotted milk. They were often presented as engagement gifts. For further examples, see Zulu treasures, Durban, 1996, pp.141-2.

Attached to this pouch is a label printed 'Mansfield Mission Station, Izingolweni Post Office, Natal, South Africa' and inscribed 'Mr and Mrs Edwin Gibbs. Zulu Curios - Grass and Bead Work'.
