CAPE 07

24 March - 02 May 2007
Cape Town, South Africa

"CAPE 07 was a "Cultural Soup Afrique": a multi-venue, multimedia contemporary African art event that aimed to challenge artistic conventions, cross socio-economic and geographic divides and offer fresh perspectives on contemporary African art.

Featuring a dynamic programme of exhibitions, discussion sessions and performances, as well as a mobile art school and an innovative "Soup Afrique" kitchen, it was a call to action for cultural practitioners to respond to the unique realities of present-day Africa and redefine African cultural practice.

Between 24 March and 02 May 2007, CAPE 07 featured over 40 "Lions" of contemporary African art, showing work in a range of media including video, new media, photography, painting, sculpture and installation. The 5-week event spans the entire Cape Town Unicity, with exhibitions, performances and discussion sessions taking place in diverse venues including the Iziko South African National Gallery (SANG), The Castle of Good Hope, Look Out Hill in Khayelitsha, the Spier Wine Estate and unexpected public spaces".
